Treasures of the
Abbey
Hexham Abbey still
holds treasures from the days when it was in the forefront of Christianity,
and from the time of the medieval priory.
The cathedra,
which later became the Frith Stool
Acca's Cross,
which perhaps stood by the grave of St Wilfrid's successor
Carved stone fragments, from the friezes, pillars and furnishings
with which Wilfrid and Acca adorned their church.
Stone Figure Sculpture in the aisles and sanctuary of the later Priory.
Painted screens and
carved misericords, from the 15th and 16th centuries.
The
Historic Hexham Trust will help to care for these treasures, explain and display them, either in the Abbey or in the Visitor
Centre, so that everyone can enjoy and understand them.
